Valentine's Day

Some Valentine's day traditions...

In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You unlock my heart!"

In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling.

In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. If she keeps the gift, it means she will marry him.

I used to look forward to valentine's day. A tradition in tkgs: we would all go to school with bags of gifts for our friends. A fun-filled 'event' full of love, chocolates, sweets, cookies, flowers, little notes and letters. There were some more not-so-common kinds of gifts though. I can vaguely remember a friend receiving a g-string.

The same tradition continued in tj. I remember stacey, rach, daph and i wanted to put the guys on a quest. We gave the guys a red, heart-shaped balloon, and a bottle full of water (must have been the silliest they ever received). And hey had to solve a 'puzzle'. Each week after v-day, a particular girl would give another note (actually written by us) to a particular one of them. Well, the truth was, we had to buy time. Our plan was to compile all the photos of the fun times we had together into a video clip. Haha, but till now, the plan remained as a plan.

Nevertheless, the guys were really sweet. They gave us this:

Each pebble had alphabets from our names written on it. As for the video clip, the guys beat us to it. They did one for daphne for her birthday. =)
